I saw The Missing tonight with my family and holy shit did that son of a bitch scare me to death. I was freaking the fuck out. But I think Cate Blanchett is so gorgeous.
Last night we had gift-opening madness with the family members who are going to Canada tomorrow. My stepdad came home at around seven from his office Christmas "lunch" and he was completely soused and making an ass out of himself. So naturally I said, "We should film this" and my uncle got out his digital camera. It'll be fun tomorrow when we all gather 'round the television set, as a family, and watch the short clips of Robert chasing the children and telling everyone how much he loves them. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

Yesterday I met Valerie [cowboy_jane ] and her friend Brandon because they're in Michigan to pick up Valerie's new puppy. So we met at Somerset and then I went with them to get the pup (so small!) from a Yooper man at a hotel. Haha! It was fun. You guys are really nice.
In eyebrow news... I had an epiphany yesterday: My eyebrows are large. But I don't want to make them thinner because it's not like my face is going to be on the cover of Vogue or anything (maybe Teen Beat, if I play my cards right), so instead I'll go through life looking like Peter Gallagher.

Happiness is a box of 120 Kotex from Costco. It's like I won the Period Lottery.

Tonight Erin and I hid our 100 rolls of toilet paper (yes, you read that correctly. Our semesterly goal of 100 rolls of toilet paper has been met.) The RA sneaks into our rooms during winter break to rummage through our stuff and we didn't think she would appreciate the tremendous hoarding of free front-desk toilet paper. We also left notes for her around the room. For example, the one in the fridge says, "Help yourself to some cheese and beer! Just kidding. We're underage, remember? But seriously, have some cheese." And the one in the medicine cabinet says, "No illegal drugs in here! I sold them to small children. Happy holidays!"
I have three exams left. French tomorrow morning and IAH tomorrow at 8pm (aka, close to my bedtime). Then anthro on Thursday, and I'm d-o-n-e. But I'm going to miss French so much. I wish I could keep the same people and same teacher for next semester. We're trying to plan a French bowling party to have before Jenny the French Woman goes back to France. I wish I could go back to France. Damn, I have to pee.

I love Alison Krauss. If I could be anyone else, I would be her. She has the purest voice, it's almost extraterrestrial. Aliens have pure voices, right?
Well, back to ISS. "I eat, I excrete, get used to it."

Ahhh I can't believe it - classes are over! I had French for the last time this morning. I'm going to miss that class so much, and Teresa too because she's the best instructor/TA I've had and probably the best I'll ever have here. Her French friend Jenny who's been with us for almost the whole semester took pictures with us today. It was all very sweet/sad.
But I'm absolutely ready for break now.

I decided today that I want to study abroad in France next spring. I want to so bad. I feel like I really need to do something and go somewhere and see things. So that's my goal from now on. And maybe while I'm in France I'll buy a villa and my Asian lesbian friend will come visit me. Oh wait, that's not me, that's Diane Lane.

| I have really fun dreams |
[25 Nov 2003|09:49am] |

This morning I dreamt that I was listening to the radio and I said, "Hey, it's Terri Clark! No wait, it's Martina McBride." Then a little while later my alarm went off for real and a Martina McBride song was playing.

People don't realize how offensive and thoughtless they are sometimes. And it...offends me. I need a change of...we'll say scenery. What I really need right now is not around me, and what I don't need (at all) is fucking everywhere. I'm stuck and can't do anything about it. It's screamingly frustrating.
Part II: I think people should be able to tell someone how great they are without sounding creepy, because some people really deserve to hear it. It's not everyday you meet someone that makes you think, "If only more people were like you..."
I hate being vague, but too bad, that's what you get.

| French makes me nervous |
[20 Nov 2003|12:54pm] |
Our French play is tomorrow night and I'm scaaaared because the last time I checked I was not an actor. We had our dress rehearsal on Tuesday night and I think it went pretty well. The guy I act with reminds me of Gregoire.
Sunday night Meg and I have our French oral interview at the library, so that's giving me a good scare too. That's where we have a forced chat in front of our teacher, which is not the greatest idea the foreign language dept. ever had. I think we'll wear funny hats to relieve some of the pressure. And by that, I mean I'm going to force Meg to wear a funny hat with me.
So...It's a very French week. Tchao.

It definitely made my day.

| the Michael Douglas head |
[16 Nov 2003|09:53pm] |
|
The Michael Douglas head on our bathroom door is now saying, "Smiles are free where I come from!" Sometimes he's informative: "You can get free toilet paper at the front desk!" Sometimes he's affectionate: "I love you!" But he's always creepy. And that's the vibe we strive for when it comes to our suitemates.

You know...I love Sheryl. She's so damn cool. I'm proud to be a semi-crazed fan. Plus the woman is moving to Nashville, and who loves country music more than me? Probably a lot of people.

| "Martha, why do so many people hate you?" |
[05 Nov 2003|01:16pm] |
Yesterday I bought Sheryl's "Very Best Of" with the *bonus DVD*!! It's terribly unfortunate that the "First Cut" video isn't included (because I love it more than breathing), but "Run, Baby, Run" is, and I've never seen that one.
Last night Erin and I walked down to the river in our pajamas and threw our pumpkins in. I love throwing things in the river. But only organic things, like bodies.
